reappropriation

also known as collage.

piecing things and making them your own. usually to deliver some sort of message or massage ;)

i'm quite fond of collage. and i seem to practice it quite simply with the least amount of imagery possible. although, it sure does take me a while to narrow it down to a few necessary images and decide when i should stop.

so we breifly explored dadaism last wednesday and i do believe we've only shed the first layer of dead skin cells this ginormous organ possesses. because there's so much more within it. which is absurd because that is what it goes against! throwing so-called "art" (in context) back at the bourgeoisie buyer, ridiculizing his or her affirmation of what makes art, art. so lets take a shovel for instance, jam a nail into a gallery wall, hang aforementioned digging stick on aforementioned nail, slap on a tag with a title and BAM! you've got yourself an art piece.

i'll thank Al for that analogy, that snazzy of an art history teacher from dawson. good times.

here are the collages i came up with for the homework. (however, after having completed them, i couldn't believe that i didn't pick up a dictionary before cutting out images from magazines.. i just kept repeating the titles in my head as i went through them [the mags])

(i'll also have you know that there are certain meanings to the images but i'll probably let you interpret them and write down what i was trying to get across a bit later, yes i'll do that)
